Liz Callaway: Journey to the Past

I had the chance to mix Front of House for Liz Callaway, an award winning Broadway and voice actress.

What I Did

I was the mixer for Liz Callaway’s 2018 performance at Council Rock High School South in Holland, PA. I mixed Ms. Callaway’s handheld microphone, choir microphones, the piano, and other special guests’ microphones while they were on stage during rehearsals and the main performance. I also mixed Ms. Callaway’s monitor mix so that she could hear herself, the piano, other vocalists, and the tracks used during the course of the performance.

What I Learned

This was a monumental experience for me because it was the first time I had the chance to work with someone as respected as Ms. Callaway. I got a glimpse of what professional performers expect from their engineers so that they can perform at their best. I’ve carried this experience with me to every show I’ve been a part of since then. I treat every performer I work with with the respect and attention to detail that my time working with Ms. Callaway called for. My goal is always to establish trust and credibility with the performers I work with so that they can devote all of their energy to focusing on giving the audience the best show possible instead of whether or not their microphone will be on when they start singing.
